Exciting Ryan win follows special halftime tribute
By HAROLD HUGGINS
All in all, it was a special night at Father Ryan.
With a heart-felt tribute to the late Willie Brown and the retiring of the number 50, the Irish boys followed up with an exciting 48-46 win over Lipscomb Academy Tuesday night, helping the Irish celebrate a nice beginning to its 89th basketball season.
In between games, Ryan celebrated becoming the first school in the South to integrate African American players Willie Brown, along with Jesse Porter, in the 1963-64 season — 50 years ago.
